Recipient Stories

I will use the Mandy Wagner Foundation scholarship as I enter my sophomore year at Colby-Sawyer College as a nursing major.

Growing up with Cystic Fibrosis I have spent a fair amount of time at the hospital, whether it be for clinic visits or two week stays. It was the nurses who took care of me during these times that inspired me to pursue a nursing degree. They always took the time to talk with me and explain what was happening. They also took the time to get to know me as a person, they made it okay to be in the hospital, whether it be playing games or doing my nails i always felt taken care of both physically and mentally.

I want to pay this type of care forward to other children who may be facing a difficult diagnosis. Through my experiences I feel like I can offer a unique perspective to others in the healthcare industry. More importantly, I feel like I can be an inspiration to others with life threatening illnesses and let them know that no matter what life throws at you, through hard work and determination you can make your dreams and goals come true.

I would like to thank the Mandy Wagner Foundation for this scholarship and for the opportunity to continue to pursue my dreams and goals.
